In Valven Atlas, a contributor is any person who is involved in software projects: writes code, reviews pull requests, and contributes to issues.
Contributors are automatically fetched from your Git and issue repositories and saved into Valven Atlas. We offer a comprehensive contributor management feature that allows you to efficiently handle individuals involved in your software projects.
You can perform 2 main actions on contributors:
Merging Multiple Contributor Records:
Merging contributor records eliminates duplicates and ensures that all relevant information is consolidated, enhancing data accuracy and ease of management.
In Valven Atlas, merging contributor records enables you to consolidate multiple entries associated with the same individual into a single unified entity. This helps streamline your contributor management process and maintain accurate records. To merge contributor records, follow these steps:
- Click on the Manage Contributors button on the Contributors page
- The identified contributors will be listed on this page. Valven Atlas users with proper permissions can activate deactivate or merge multiple contributor records.
- Merge Actions can be either completed from the list manually or automatically from the smart Valven Atlas assistant that will suggest contributor records that are potentially repeated by small differences in their information or the same email addresses with updated domains.
- In the manual option;
- Select the replicated records and the Merge Contributors option will be visible at the top of the list.
- Select the Merge Contributors option at the top of the contributor list
- Follow the prompts to specify the primary record that will serve as the merged entity.
- Confirm your selection, and Valven Atlas will merge the contributor records into a single cohesive entry.
- In the automated option;
- Click on the Show Suggestions button at the right top of the list.
- This will enable Valven Atlas smart assistant to analyze the similarities in contributor IDs and all the related records will be brought to the popup to run the merge action effortlessly.
- Overview all suggestions and select the related records from the radio button on the leftmost side. Then select the primary record the other records will merge into.
-
- Press Save Changes to complete the merging process
- This smart suggestion mechanism is designed to reduce operational costs and potential errors. Please make sure that the merged contributors represent the same person.
Enabling/Disabling Contributors:
Valven Atlas provides the flexibility to enable or disable individual contributors based on their involvement in software projects. This feature allows you to manage contributor access and permissions effectively. To enable or disable contributors, follow these steps:
- Click on the Manage Contributors button on the Contributors page
- If you will toggle the status of a single contributor, click three dots on the right side of the row, and select "Mark as Passive / Active"
- If you will toggle the status of multiple contributors, identify the contributor records you wish to enable/disable by clicking on them. Click "Mark as Passive / Active" at the top of the list
- Confirm your selection, and Valven Atlas will apply the changes accordingly.
Note: Both actions require re-processing of your data to recalculate your reports. This may take up to 30 minutes depending on the size of your data.
